Collection: Jerusalem Dreams

My series of artworks titled "Dreams of My Youth Before Jerusalem Crumbling" began in 1980 with the first pen and ink drawing. Having visited Israel in 1979 with the intent of making Aliyah, and then realizing that this was not the right path for me, I channeled my disappointment and confusion into that drawing, following up with the drawing in colored pencil. The crumbling of the Western wall is a metaphor for my own disillusionment. A more hopeful version appears in Dreams IV.

The acrylic painting version of the original drawing, Dreams V,  is my favorite of this series, and is a bridge between the Dreams of My Youth and the Biblical Women Series. Jerusalem Dreams is the bridge between this series and my Illumination Series, and features a tracing of the original drawing.
