The Sotah: Trial of the Suspect Wife (Numbers 5:11-31)

In this ancient law, when a man suspects his wife of betrayal, or if he is jealous over her, she is brought before the priest.  The priest mixes holy water with dust from the floor, lets the woman's hair down, and causes her to swear an oath which is written on a scroll and blotted into the holy water.  If the woman's "belly swells" from drinking the mixture, she is considered guilty of adultery, and if she does not get sick, she is cleared of all guilt.
