The Matriarchs: Sarah

The Matriarchs is a mixed media mono-print triptych depicting the lives and trials of Sarah, Rebekkah, and Rachel and Leah. In each panel, God’s presence is depicted as a protective arc, and references to the next generation’s struggles are present as influenced by each matriarch.

In this first panel, Sarah is shown eavesdropping behind a door as she hears God’s prophecy. Hagar and Ishmael run from Sarah in the background, and God’s presence is symbolized by the arc-like ribbon which encircles and protects Hagar while pricking the ankle of Sarah (a reference to her future offsprings’ struggles).
