The Matriarchs: Rachel & Leah

THE MATRIARCH
The Matriarchs is a mixed media mono-print triptych depicting the lives and trials of Sarah, Rebekkah, and Rachel and Leah. In each panel, God’s presence is depicted as a protective arc, and references to the next generation’s struggles are present as influenced by each matriarch.

The Matriarchs: Rachel and Leah
A midrash tells us that Rachel and Leah were twins; here they stand together under the chuppah as they become the bearers of the Jewish people. The birth waters which flow from them include twelve separate streams for the twelve tribes, which also become a reference to Joseph’s coat of many colors.
